Nohnohn Nansed - Ocean Mother is inspired by a legend from the island of Pohnpei. The significant oral relic of the Dipwinwai clan tells of a young woman who first learned of natural childbirth with the guidance and protection of a stingray. This story comes from a time when people lived harmoniously with the natural world, and shares a lesson of strength, loyalty and the importance of giving gratitude. A special thanks to Carolann Carl who shared this legend with me for inspiration on this piece.
